Prehistoric relics found in Central Highlands

Cong-chieng

Archeologists from the Archeology Institute have found many objects of Central Highlands prehistoric culture during excavations of nine relic sites in Kon Tum province.

After six months of excavation at the reservoir of the Plei Krong Hydro-electric Power Plant, archeologists found more than 1,000 stone, bronze and iron objects, mainly axes and jewellery.

The bronze items date back 2,000 years, and vestiges of tomb houses, stone-made tombs and human-shaped pebble tombs are among the other objects found for the first time in the Central Highlands.

Prof. Nguyen Khac Su, excavation team leader, said that the objects are various and typical for Central Highlands prehistoric culture, and they remain nearly intact. Many objects manifest a mixture of cultures, showing the cultural exchanges between pre-historic people and great civilisations nationwide, he said.
